 College brief introduction

  College of Food Science and Engineering  (CFSE) in Tianjin University of Science and Technology was established in 1958. The college has a first-level doctoral degree and a first-level master's degree in the provincial key disciplines of food science and engineering. It also has 6 doctoral authorization points for secondary disciplines, 6 master degree authorization points for secondary disciplines, and 2 professional master degree authorization points. It has post-doctoral workstation for the following 2 disciplines: food science and engineering, food processing and engineering. There are 3 bachelor degree granting disciplines in the college: food science and engineering, food quality and safety, biotechnology. There are more than 700 graduate, 1300 undergraduate students studying in CFSE.


CFSE has been actively employing talents from domestic and overseas to improve the teachers’ teaching and research level since university changed its name. Now the faculty in the college has 120 employees,  including 80 academic staffs, 33 professors and 31 associate professors; CFSE has 16 persons awarded the talents titles on state level, such as "academician of International Academy of Food Science", "Scientific Advisory Committee Member, International Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology", "National special support program for high level talents", "The National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars", "The National Science Fund for Excellent Young Scholars National Excellent ", "Changjiang Scholar", "New Century Talents Project Baiqianwan", "Ministry of science and technology leading young talents in science and technology innovation", "Special allowance expert of the State Council". CFSE has 72 persons awardee Provincial and ministerial talents titles, such as ""Tianjin Municipal People's Government commissioned experts", "Special professor of Tianjin", "Famous teachers in Tianjin" and so on. More than 90% of full-time employed staffs have the Ph.D. degrees. More than 72% of the teachers have overseas study, work and exchange experiences.

Professional training

CFSE adheres to provide students modern education by using modern educational techniques to enhance education quality management, to broaden students’ version on the engineering profession, to cultivate the students’ knowledge, ability and quality as a whole development. A group of respected, knowledgeable professors have become the models for students. A large number of doctors, postdoctors and senior visiting scholars from oversea come to CFSE, they implant the students in our college withs updated knowledge in the world. CFEB also provides staff opportunities with international academic exchanges by the a number of ways, such as academic staff exchange, lecturing and research exchange. These activities improve the international exchange level for CFSE.

Research capacity and facilities

CFSE has 5 teaching and research platforms on state-level, such as "State Key Laboratory of Food Nutrition and Safety", "National Demonstration Center for Experimental Food Science Education",     "International Science and Technology Cooperation Base for Food Nutrition and Safety and Medicinal Chemistry", "National International Science and Technology Cooperation Base of Great Health and Biotechnology", "Institute of New Rural Development";CFSE also has more than 10 teaching and research platforms on provincial and ministerial level, such as "Key Laboratory of Food Nutrition and Safety of Ministry of Education", "Food Biotechnology Engineering Research Center of Ministry of Education",      " Demonstration Center of Food Enterprise Quality and Safety Testing Technology ",      "Key Laboratory of Tianjin Food Nutrition and Safety ",     "Tianjin Food Technology Engineering Center", "Tianjin Food Processing Control and Safety Technology Engineering Center",    "International Junct Research Center for Great Health Biotechnology", "Tianjin Food Safety & Low Carbon Manufacturing Collaborative Innovation Center", "International Junct Research Center for Green Food Processing", "National Fruit and Vegetable Processing Professional Sub-center", "China light industrial food ingredients Key Laboratory", "Tianjin excellent teaching laboratory". The college has all kinds of advanced experimental instruments and equipment.

Future Prospect
Biotechnology will be most promising discipline in 21st century, food science and technology has the great opportunities to develop, but the development of science and technology need education in this field come first, so the faculty and students in CFEB are full of enthusiasm, high morale, excellent work vigor, to meet new classmates coming!
