Good News! Food Science Students Win 2024 National Third Prize in "Beautiful China" Biodiversity Innovation Competition

From December 5th to 7th, 2024, the National finals of the 2024 China Postgraduate "Beautiful China" Innovation Design Competition - Biodiversity Conservation and Utilization Innovation Competition was grandly held at Yunnan Agricultural University. A total of 94 teams from 41 training institutions advanced to the national finals of this competition. The "Colorful Cloud Team" (team members: Zhang Rui, He Xiaoyang, Li Huihui, Chen Yixia, Feng Yinyin, instructor: Yan Shuai), composed of postgraduate students from the School of Food Science and Engineering of our university, successfully made it to the national third prize with their project "Sailing with Sheep - Leading in Precision Breeding and Product Innovation of Black-Bone Sheep".
The project is dedicated to the development of the black-bone sheep industry in Lanping County, Nujiang Lisu Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province. It actively implements the green rural strategy, applies intelligent and ecological breeding technologies, and effectively improves the breeding efficiency and meat quality of black-bone sheep by adding local characteristic mushroom extracts to the feed. The team is dedicated to producing high-quality characteristic products of black-bone sheep to meet the diverse needs of different consumers. In 2023, they founded the company and, through technological innovation and digital marketing strategies, have made outstanding contributions to the local economy and ecological protection.
In recent years, the College of Food Science has continuously optimized the comprehensive education model of "theory + practice", attaching great importance to the cultivation of students' scientific research level and professional skills, and promoting the effective connection between social demands and scientific and technological achievements. The teachers and students of the college have achieved outstanding results in various innovation and entrepreneurship competitions, fully demonstrating the "pioneering image" of Tianke youth.
