Biography

Dr Xu Wang is an associate professor of Food Engineering & Biotechnology, Tianjin University of Science & Technology. In June 2008, he obtained his Master Degree at the School of Pharmaceutical Science & Technology, Tianjin University. From Jul 2008 to Aug 2009, he worked as a scientist in the Department of Analytical R&D, WuXi AppTec in Shanghai. In Oct 2013, he started as a postdoctoral fellow in analytical department at Innovation R&D Center, Master Kong Holding Corp. In the beginning of 2016, he was promoted as a senior scientist to lead the analytical team and manage the R&D project. In Sept 2016, Dr Wang joined Tianjin University of Science & Technology. To bridge the gap between academia and industry, he has been driving impactful innovation with industry and dedicated himself to train young scientist in analytical sciences.

Research Interests

The challenge of current food safety issue is unknown hazards. To meet the increasing need of food industry, comprehensive and high throughput analytical platforms have been developed to screen potential risks in food and environment using high resolution Time of Flight Mass spectrometry. Analytical solutions including chromatography and capillary electrophoresis will be developed with regards to high sensitivity and selectivity.

Metabolomics has been becoming a comprehensive and sensitive tool in health assessment and the discovery of biomarkers in the early stage of health related diseases. The research will be focused on the development of target metabolomics and its application in food nutrition and life science. By working closely with our partners, we are devoted to looking for possible mechanism and intervention for human related chronic diseases.

There is also an increasing need to looking for possible cure from nutraceuticals or natural products towards human related chronic diseases. The main reason for failure of drug discovery is poor biopharmaceutical properties. Excellent in vitro efficacy can not always translate into in vivo activity unless it has good bioavailability. Simultaneous screening of binding property and pharmacokinetic properties was proposed in the early stage of drug discovery. The binding property of potential lead towards to a certain protein target like MMP will be studied including its IC50 and Ki. The in vivo bioavailability or ADME profile of the lead candidate will be investigated using LC-MS/MS based pharmacokinetics.
